SeaWinds on QuikSCAT Calibration Using a Calibration Ground Station
نویسندگان
چکیده
AbstmctIn order to achieve highly accurate calibration of the SeaWinds scatterometer, a calibration ground station (CGS) was constructed by Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) at White Sands, New Mexico, in association with the QuikSCAT mission. This receive-only system precisely measures the time, frequency, and power of the SeaWinds transmit signal as it passes overhead. From the CGS data, key instrument and spacecraft parameters can be estimated. Since the launch of QuikSCAT in June of 1999, several key calibration results have been obtained, including a one second GPS error, and determination of instrument attitude, timing, frequency, and power.

Validation of SeaWinds on QuikSCAT Cell Location
Increased interest in high resolution ocean wind measurements, as well as excellent past performance, has led to the development of enhanced resolution applications of SeaWinds on QuikSCAT scatterometer data. An essential requirement of this development is the validation of the cell location accuracy the latitude and longitude of each measurement. This paper discusses two methods of validating ...
متن کاملImproved Timing Calibration of QuikSCAT
Since being launched in June 1999, QuikSCAT has successfully and accurately measured ocean wind vectors. Current research is attempting to increase performance beyond the original design parameters in order to increase the utility of the data. Timing calibration is critical to this effort. Timing information is used to determine instrument performance as well as to calculate the location of eac...

Introduction satellite based scatterometers provide high resolution all-weather wind vector fields over the seas. Wind speed and wind direction are provided at high accuracy under all weather conditions. The allweather EsA ERs scatterometer observations have proven its significant impact for the forecasting of fast developing and severe weather. Moreover, scatterometer wind fields are provided ...

[1] The world’s oceans can potentially be used as an extended target for achieving a radiometric calibration of space borne lidar if the reflective properties of the surface can be accurately predicted from available environmental data such as wind speed. To test current understanding of ocean reflectance we compare surface pulse returns measured with the 1064 nm altimetry channel of the Geosci...
